Description:
This is a highly desirable gorget, crafted from silvered die-stamped steel. The obverse features a striking eagle with outstretched wings, flanked by two buttons and a ribbon banner inscribed with “Feldgendarmerie,” all enhanced by a glow-in-the-dark radium finish. The reverse includes a metal hook for chain attachment and an additional stabilizing hook for securing to a uniform, backed by field-grey wool. It measures 164 mm wide by 73 mm high and comes with a 705 cm long multi-link chain. While it shows signs of wear, nearly all of its original silver finish remains intact, and the glowing paint is exceptionally well preserved. Overall, it is in better than extremely fine condition.
History:
The Feldgendarmerie was established in 1936 and expanded significantly during World War II. They operated in various theaters of the war, often in challenging and chaotic conditions. Their presence was felt in occupied territories, where they enforced Nazi regulations and controlled civilian populations. The Feldgendarmerie, or Military Police of the German Army during World War II, played a crucial role in maintaining order and enforcing military regulations. Among the symbols of their authority was the distinctive gorget, a piece of military insignia worn around the neck.
