Description
An excellent and very attractive Original German Luftwaffe 16-piece silverware set, dated 1938 and marked Rostfrei Solingen, manufactured by Giessen, a known German producer of high-quality flatware during the pre-war period. This elegant matching set is a fine example of German craftsmanship from the early Third Reich era and represents a scarce category of Luftwaffe officer / mess hall / private purchase tableware seldom encountered on the collector market.
The set consists of 16 matching pieces, including knives, forks, spoons, and serving pieces, all featuring the same classic German pattern handles with a silver-plated finish and stainless-steel working ends. Several pieces display the Luftwaffe eagle acceptance style marking on the handles, along with the 1938 date and Rostfrei Solingen stamp, confirming period manufacture.
The silverware shows honest age and use, with a pleasing untouched patina consistent with wartime table service items. The plating remains largely intact, with normal wear to high points and working surfaces. The blades retain their original finish, and the handles remain solid with no major damage.
Flatware sets such as this were commonly used in officer mess, formal dining, or private purchase service, and are far less common than field equipment, making them highly desirable to collectors seeking unusual Luftwaffe or German military personal items. These pieces display beautifully and pair well with other Luftwaffe officer items, mess gear, or period dining equipment.
