Description

This original example features the Type II chain configuration and dates to approximately 1938. The plated hilt fittings show only light wear and remain in excellent overall condition. The black wooden grip, inset with the SS eagle and runic badge, exhibits a few minor edge chips near the crossguards. The SS roundel is in near mint condition.

The blade bears the SS motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” (“My Honour is Loyalty”) deeply etched on the obverse. The reverse is correctly unmarked, as is typical for chained SS officers’ daggers of this period. The scabbard is in excellent condition, retaining nearly all of its original black anodized finish. The plated scabbard fittings are fully intact and retain their bright silvered finish. The central band, decorated with six interlinked swastikas, is particularly crisp.

The dagger is fitted with Type II chains, showing fine detail to the skull and rune links. The reverse of one link bears the correct and clearly struck SS Kulturzeichen runic stamp, and the cloverleaf spring clip remains fully functional. Included is the original silver knot (portepee), showing light wear consistent with age. These were authorized for SS officers serving with the Waffen-SS or Sicherheitsdienst (SD).

In 1936, Heinrich Himmler introduced this new chained hanger design for existing SS officers’ daggers, permitting both newly commissioned officers and “Old Guard” SS members (enrolled before January 1933) to wear them.

This is a near mint, well-preserved example of the 1936 Model SS Chained Leader’s Dagger—a highly sought-after and collectible piece—offered at a very reasonable price considering its condition and authenticity.
